New snow

Winter is an exciting time for many because it means the start of recreational activities as well many depend on the winter for employment opportunities. When we complain about the weather we often do not look at the bigger picture. Remember the face on the child who learns to ski for the first time or puts on skates. Have you seen a little one wake up to see snow for the first time? I experienced this for the third time last week and I am still amazed at how we loose so much as we learn and see new things. It is at this time I reflect and remember that it is not always the new car or house that is important but seeing a little one small and giggle about snow is priceless.

Delicious

Good way to get information about topics. Saw some interesting subjects. I find that this type of process is time consuming. I need more time in my day to explore this further. I might use it today to troubleshoot computer issues.

YouTube and podcasts are one of the areas that interested me. You can get a great deal of expertise if you are willing to search. For our Community Centre I have passed along the link below to our Film Club Coordinator. It might be a good resource when a question needs to be answered. Maybe he can incorporate it into a session. YouTube has been a subject at the Centre. The main topic policy and procedure surrounding YouTube and who decides what is appropriate to upload since it is a representation of what and who the Community Centre. The youth having a club that they upload their latest films. We have sent a funding partner a thank you by giving them the link to a film. The film showed the funding partner how much fun the youth are having with the equipment they bought with the funds they have given.

I would definitely incorporate this type of component. It is a quick way to reach your audience and share some of the things your organization is doing. Maybe connecting to parents about different family issues might be a great podcast. It would mean they would not have to be physically at the Centre to participate.

WOW! It is not easy to think of things to blog about. My most memorable event this week was my daughter seeing snow. What a feeling to see your child's excitement about something I generally dread. Wiping and shovelling snow can add sometimes ten minutes or longer to my schedule so when I see snow my reaction is almost disgust. What other things in life do we see differently? What makes one person squeal in excitement makes another feel nauseated. I think about reality TV, I want it to stop but I have girlfriends who live for it. I find it very frustrating to see all the channels monoplized by reality TV. We spend a whole lot of time counselling our children about healthy socializing and in a minute they are exposed to unstable and quite often mean spirited social interactions. I am not unrealistic to think that people do not conduct themselves like this but what are we really saying when we support shows that destroy a person's self-esteem? I have stopped watching TV for the most part. I no longer feel the need to sit down and watch shows on a particular night but some cannot function unless their TV is on. Just some thoughts

I think the 2.0 is an appropriate tool if you are trying to bring together useful information from those who have the expertise. You are reaching a larger population. How useful and accurate the information is some concern for me. If you want to network with others in your field or on a subject this would be a benefit. I think I would have to get more comfortable online before I would consider using this type of tool.

Wiki, Wiki, Wiki

I have used this Wiki as a tool in the past. I do find that the information is influenced by the writer's opinion so it is like a newspaper, television etc. you need to know the source. I do not think I would base my opinions on this tool but it has its place. I would encourage others to use it if they wanted different views on a subject. I did like the fact that the information is updated quickly so you can get the latest on the subject. Would I use this on a regular basis, probably not since I do not spend that much time online.

Facebook is a good social networking tool and it may very well be of some use to an organization. I think that it would be used by the younger generation more often because they have grown up on this type of technology. I do think that there is some generational gap that exists. Would it be useful for a non-Facebook user? I don't really think so. You would need to know what population you were targeting before deciding if a page on Facebook would serve a purpose for your organization. I think that the control of content and keeping track of wall posts and comments would be daily task for the administrator so time and new policies would need to be developed.

The Library Thing was fun. I am a reader so this serves as a tool for me and keeps me in touch with the thing I like to do the best. READ! With busy lives going to the library is not necessarily on the top of my list but if I can do the leg work in advance etc. I might get there more often.

I use the computer for tasks that I need to do. I do not often use the computer to just surf etc. I need a reason/purpose to be on the internet.

Mashing Things Up!

I think that I grasp the general concept of these terms and tools etc. I don't know if I would use them a regular basis but I can see how online can become a little more interesting. I don't know how much I would want to put personal images but I had fun doing this assignment. All these accounts are overwhelming to say the least. I almost need a software program to track my user names and passwords.

What is this...

I am clearly not comfortable with any type of chat, blogging, facebook etc. Why would you want to give just anyone access to your thoughts? When I was presented with the idea of taking a course that would make me do just that it terrified me. What do I have to see or want people to this see that would interest them? It is not easy sharing thoughts and feelings about subjects for others to see. I still perplexed about this whole pheonmenon
